Why Upgrade Your Single Pane Window?
Upgrading your single pane window to a Double pane windows will increase your home’s and business’s energy efficiency- thus saving money on your utility bill. Homeowners who upgrade their single pane windows to double pane windows are eligible for government subsidies in the form of a tax-credit.
What is a Double Pane Window?
Insulated glazing (IG), more commonly known as double glazing is two glass window panes that are usually separated by a spacer with a gas or vacuum in the middle. (See Argon Gas in our glossary). This space is used to reduce the heat / cool transfer from the outside in and vice versa.
Double pane windows frames are usually wood, vinyl, or aluminum. Older windows often suffer from wood sash rot. See our blog post where we did a glass replacement on a 100 year old window.
Moisture is locked out by a silicone seal and desiccant in between the spacers. Often foggy window occur if the window’s silicone sealant, or chemical desiccant has expired.
Insulated glass units (IGUs) are usually annealed or tempered glass- they can be laminated too, but that is fairly uncommon. Our blog post on .
